Here is a look at some of the best social media campaigns and campaign announcements that have caught our eye in the last week. They are imaginative, creative, and in the case of car manufacturer Lexus, a superlative example of how to reach different niche audiences via social.
Lexus Zips into the Fast Lane with Targeted Social Campaign
Luxury vehicle maker Lexus is really getting into niche marketing with a social media campaign to promote its NX model. The company has announced that it has created more than 1,000 unique video ads, which will be targeted at different audience profiles across Facebook.
Each video has been designed to show-off features that matches a particular person’s individual tastes. For example, if someone loves to travel then they will be presented with an ad that has a travel related theme. “This is about tailoring and customizing ads to our target audience,” said Lexus media manager Teri Hill.
The campaign will run throughout February and March and Lexus expects it to generate between five and six billion impressions.
Share Your Love for Huntsville and Madison County
The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is rolling out a brand new social media campaign to drum up interest in the area as a fabulous holiday destination. The #iHeartHsv social media campaign aims to encourage people around the globe to post pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of their favourite place in Madison.
Each day of the 2-week campaign will take on a different theme, and followers are urged not only to send in photos, but also thoughts, stories and tweets related to the theme. As a nice, juicy carrot for participation, the most creative posts and pictures will be in line for an array of prizes. These include free tickets to local attractions and gift vouchers for clothe shops, restaurants and other local businesses.
This is the second iHeart campaign and it follows last year’s promotional activities, which carried on throughout the year, with people continuing to post using the #iHeartHsv hashtag. New this year, is a tweet chat where local businesses, tourism influencers and residents will come together to launch the initiative.

“We are very excited to kick off this next campaign for the Main Street,” said Ann Glave, executive director of Fredericksburg VA Main Street Inc., in a press statement. “Our promotions committee, led by local businessman Brian Lam, developed this effort to highlight all of the wonderful things about our historic downtown and encourage visitors, shoppers, residents, business owners and others to share their favourite things to the world.”
The hashtag #LOVEFXBG is the social media focal point of what’s going on, and it is where restaurants and local businesses are being encouraged to promote their special Valentine’s offers. Visitors and residents are also expected to use the hashtag to highlight their favourite activities and places in Fredericksburg.
Additionally, a local artist has been commissioned to create a sculpture of the hashtag #LOVEFXBG letters, which will be auctioned off at the end of the campaign.
Could Smeared Lipstick Selfies be the Next Ice Bucket Challenge?
The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, continues to be a source of inspiration for many charity social media activities. Smeared lipstick selfies is the newest campaign set to go viral and as those words suggests, the images are of people with lipstick smudges on their face. It was launched by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, a U.K.-based organization that provides women with information about cervical cancer.
A number of celebrities have already posted their selfies, including Georgia May Jagger and Rita Ora. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust spokeswoman Maddy Durrant told The Huffington Post: “We understand it’s near impossible to replicate a viral campaign like the Ice Bucket Challenge as these campaigns often start organically and require a little bit of magic,” Durrant continued. “Smearing lipstick was an obvious -– and very visual –- choice. Using a hashtag that directly links the cause with the image was also key.”
The hashtag for the campaign is #smearforsmear.
